Safety Tips:
- Above all else, use common sense when carrying a baby or child in a wrap or sling. Baby carriers can allow you to get things done handsfree but always remember to actively care for your child at all times.
- Always make sure your baby is tied securely and tight to your body. With a Ring Sling, ensure there is plenty of extra ‘tail’ pulled through the rings.
- Always make sure your baby can breathe freely. Check frequently that the carried child’s airways are free and that his chin has not slumped to his chest. Newborns lack the muscle control to free restricted airways. They need good back and neck support. Never allow a baby’s head or face to be covered with fabric, this can cause them to rebreathe the same air which can be dangerous.
- Never Jog, run, jump or do any other activity that could bounce or shake your baby’s neck, spine or brain.
- Never use a baby carrier when riding in a car.
- Inspect your sling regularly to ensure it is structurally sound. Check the fabric for any tears that could have occurred. If you notice any damage stop using immediately and contact us for advice.
- When baby-carrying out and about, look in shop windows and mirrors whenever possible to check your baby’s position and also feel with your hands that fabric hasn’t slipped or moved.
- Babies should always be carried in an upright position in a baby sling, not a cradle position.
- Be careful what your baby can reach or grab whilst being carried. Exercise caution when near open flames.
- Be aware of your body heat when using a wrap or sling - you may require fewer layers as you are sharing body heat with your child.
